What a warm and inviting piece of round-the-fire folk, with a chorus that is both catchy and singable. In fact the latter is the kind of construct that is almost out of fashion these days, a centrepiece we can return to time and again. The narrative is different, to say the least, focusing on a World War I event in the Eastern Front where hungry marauding wolves had taken to attacking soldiers on both sides. So a temporary truce was made between the Russians and Germans to deal with the howling nasties. This is the kind of memorable ditty that could have bookended the temporary, or longer, peace. Lovely.
