I always have a tinge of sorrow for contemporary shoegaze bands because the genre has barely moved on since its peak and as a result only a few acts can find the genius to thrill us using the base materials. Laveda are definitely one of those bands, their playing and arrangements so swish it sounds like clockwork, albeit tick-tocking in a haze of beautifully dense chords with breaks in the fog supplied by the dreamy vocals of Ali Genevich. Albany’s Leveda will be appearing at SXSW later this month. KH
