Cowboy Dinosaur – Making Friends

There is serious guitar work to open this new single from Cowboy Dinosaur, the kind that could hold the attention without any need to usher in vocals. But Cowboy Dinosaur wouldn’t dream of leaving us short and so when the words scurry forth it feels like we’re dining out on an indie-rock track of yore, with all the trimmings and a 90’s facade that works best with the full headphones treatment. Yep, pretty much bullseye for alt leaning buzzards like us, lavishing as we do in all that chord interplay and the harmonious vocal thrusts. No surprise then that the Portland act list Blonde Redhead and Slowdive in their list of influences and ‘Making Friends’ sure stands up well in such vaulted company. In fact I’d wager this track will be occupying placings near the summit of best of 2022 indie lists. It that just gets better and better with every listen. KH
