Many Places – Ever Shining

Has a lolloping kind of quality, the kind that hypnotic minutes are made of and Chicago’s Many Places extenuate the effect with some brass in there. And that is before we even get onto a singer who has a David Gedge like manner, always thinking on the upside even if he hasn’t registered the slide happening all around. ‘Ever Shining’ is an anthem for the eternally unlucky, positive and optimistic and that is a cohort who have been left shy of songs to soundtrack their misadventures so here is some much needed redress. A good natured kind of crash, bang and wallop and for me the ring of authenticity that comes from real people playing real instruments. KH
