Porterfield – Father of None

It feels like we’ve been torn away from the strife of everyday living thanks to Brooklyn’s Porterfield for a break full of calm and peace descends on their ‘Father of None’. And it reminded me of both Grizzly Bear and Midlake because there is invention and folk turns aplenty to satisfy our need for something different. And that is before we even talk about a sax part that feels odd but utterly beguiling in the environs of all those close harmonies. What on earth have we been subjected to I thought to myself, not realising I had slipped into a bathrobe and was drinking generously from the drinks cabinet. This is music to divert us, but better still nourish our appetite for creative endeavour. Spellbinding in other words. KH
