The minimum we expect from Bria Keely of Better Joy is an elastic break into the fantastical, a brand of indie rock that has bursts of energy as its bedrock. And ‘Big Thief’ is no different, in fact it felt like it was chomping at the bit to get the fireworks going. Reminded me a lot of the Pretenders on this occasion, but there is a janglier and more vulnerable aspect that gives the piece a cherubic personality and reveals another side to this wonderful act. A fill-up even if the curtains have been drawn on this particular romance. Perfect. KH
