That is a most lovely of languid chord to get us acquainted to ‘Lena’ but that was only the start of the slacker joy that Star Card had in store. At the heart of matters is a singer who is nonplussed with losing that just out of bed demeanour and we love them for that. Still have the wherewithal to summon a volley of noisy feedback while retaining that sense of Pavement and Malkmus aloof and endlessly cool persona. If this is not Star Card peaking we might have found ourselves our favourite new band in 2026. KH
