I think I prize the acts that can do so much with so little the most and that thought struck me as Alela Diane’s song rustled in a folk backdrop and made for the most evocative of listens into the bargain. A tidy circular acoustic scene, strings blending in with the words and a whistle to set us on our way back to simpler times and a happier set of insides. ‘California’ hits the spot, the sunshine has returned and we get confirmation of the sheer ingenuity of this Portland act.
