British Sea Power – The South Sound

I love British Sea Power even more now they’ve successfully pulled off a soundtrack befitting an age-old b/w documentary about a set of islands just off the coast of Clare. But then the Brighton adventurers are a rarefied lot, dressing like soldiers, writing about icebergs, playing in obscure locations and most importantly making music to swoon for. Here is a cut from ‘Man of Aran’ that should take up most of your afternoon, it’s an incredibly emotional piece of music as you’d expect from something sonically representing lost tradition. Some may even swell up like the seas that batter the last coastline before Ellis, others may just realise that contemporary art can be just as powerful as what proceeded it. KD
