Brown Recluse seem to be everywhere at the moment, put it down to the motivation you get on signing to Slumberland I suppose. As well as baiting us with ‘Impressions of a City Morning’ from their upcoming ‘Evening Tapestry’ LP they have now put out a free EP called ‘Panoptic Mirror Maze’. There is an overriding sense of the instrumental about the goods on offer and while not always successful there are a couple of gems. Timothy Meskers and Mark Saddlemire are indie pop through and through and when the stars align out pop tunes like ‘Memory Museum’. The shiny moving parts on this occasion include a gaggle of brass, buckets of cascading melodies and if you’re feeling sinister an admiring glance across the ocean to the barrowlands. KD
