S. Carey – In The Stream
Sean Carey has drummed his way onto Bon Iver records in as much as such things allow anything above the sound of a pin dropping to affect the overall peace. In an attempt to break free from the silence that hummingbirds make when they flap their wings he embarked on a full album of his own solo material. The resultant piece is not unlike what has preceded it but to these ears at least it is instantly more palatable. No effort is required to appreciate what is being presented, it is wispy and unassuming yet quite endearing. This is definitely headed in a direction best mapped by Sufjan Stevens and as such the arrangements are lush and pastoral. Might even be tempted to go back to source once my hearing improves. KD
