Saint Motel – 1997
Not sure why, but I somehow picked up an aversion to Los Angeles band Saint Motel before a single note had even sounded. Could well be a result of the copious PR mails with their name in the subject line. For all that though they have lassoed my heart with the first song that hoved into view, as much for its coming-of-age lyrics (and parental voicing) as its impressive arrangements. The band’s debut ‘Voyeur’ has only been just released and if ’1997′ is anything to go by it will be awash with neat thoughts and processes. The addition of brass really seals the deal and for once in my life a visit to the trash folder appears to be on the cards. KD
