Lotus Plaza – Out Of Touch
The genius that is Bradford Cox must satisfy his lust for endless creativity by engaging in several side projects away from his day job with Deerhunter. So you could be forgiven for thinking that that act is a one man show with the several other accomplished musicians flitting in the shadows filling in whatever blanks remain. The truth however is that there are other creatives at work, each capable of offering nuanced audio. Lockett Pundt runs the good ship Lotus Plaza and has already 2 albums to his name. The most recent one, ‘Spooky Action at a Distance’, is a likeable effort but one that hardly deserves the 8.4 out of 10 that Pitchfork awarded it. There are four main highlights in the shape of ‘Monoliths’, ‘Eveningness’, ‘People’ and this, my favourite ‘Out of Control’. If pummelling percussion in the environs of a feast of jangle is your bag then this could well be your new squeeze. Pundt’s vocals can be a tad dry over the course of a whole album but taken in small chunks the aforementioned songs make for wonderful mixtape inclusions. KD
