Theresa Andersson – Fiya’s Gone
The first thing that popped into my head when I heard ‘Fiya’s Gone’ was the Van Allen Belt. On closer inspection and the reality that Theresa Andersson is actually from Sweden and not Pittsburgh meant that those early illusions were vaporised. But the comparison is valid as this song has a singular vision that cares little for faddish trends and contemporary styling. A little investigation reveals that Andersson looks to Jazz’s finest for inspiration even if this could well have drifted out of a Motown studio several decades ago. You can find more of its ilk on the singers latest LP ‘Street Parade’. KD
