Lapland – Unwise
Mostly because we’re fans of that Northern outpost and its inhabitants Lapland would have appeared here even if his entire output consisted of the analogue recordings of a longnailed old lady with a fetish for shredding decommissioned blackboards. As it turns out Texan Josh Mease is much more sophisticated than that and even though he ploughs a lone furrow it is what he unearths that will attract many visitors. You can hear for yourself on this charming precursor to ‘Lapland’ the LP, due out in March. It bubbles along with consummate ease with Mease’s hovering vocals adding to the sense of serenity. Claus for celebration in my book. KD
