LA’s Blonde Summer have a new EP called ‘High Times’ which will undoubtedly be reported on at a later date but for tonight this song is everything to me. As you can probably guess it is infused with a 90’s spirit but it does with such a euphoric spirit any aspersions of copycatism are thrown out with the bathwater. It sounds like what the Pixies could have sounded like if they’d asked Stephen Malkmus to sit in on one or two of their less incendiary moments. Although there is a ferociousness at times it is tempered by the loose riffs and Chris Pope’s made for indie anthems vocals. A real beaut. KD
