Kishi Bashi has admitted that the kernel of this song was in fact a short ditty for a Japanese commercial. Such was the overwhelming response that he thought fit to turn it into a fully fledged epic. And ‘Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!’ certainly is that with Bashi’s trademark string parts being only a small part of the story. This has a sense of wild abandonment, like Vampire Weekend had finally cracked it and then enlisted the most talented musicians they could find to execute the plan. But Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!’ is also home to spirited atmospherics as well as random yelps that give an unfettered piece of creation a sense of wonky balance.
