Given that it is written about a southern road that straddles the Mississippi River you can understand why it sounds like this. That it comes from a 24 year old Chicago native makes it all the more surprising but Walker’s debut LP ‘All Kinds Of You’ proves that ‘Great River Road’ is no one off piece of classic country folk. He does that repetitive Seasick Steve shanty town sound to a T and his vocals have a maturity that so marked out Willy Mason on his debut album. Also reminded of Nick Drake in places, especially on an acoustic shuffle that is simply crafted but hugely memorable.
