I was reminded of Sigur Ros on the opening passages, that otherworldliness you get from loneliness or stark environments when a stillness becomes your only friend. And it is enough to sustain us until the big guns (those chiming chords) arrive, and before we think we’ll need to colour the scene ourselves the loveliest of narrators assumes the role. And the close mic utterances are really perfect for the job, giving us James Yorkston and Jeff Buckley rolled into one. Brooklyn’s Matt Schlatter has given us all manner of emotional turmoil while pitched at the lowest of ebbs, save for some busy instrumental asides. KH
