Slaraffenland – Polaroids

Apart from the outrageously talented Mew I couldn’t think of another Danish band until that is I ran into Slaraffenland (the land of milk and honey). Based in Copenhagen this is a collective that is going places as much for the multifaceted gems on their new album ‘Private Cinema’ as their praised SXSW show earlier this month. ‘Polaroids’ is a complex treat that reinvents itself midway through. The initial scenes pitch synths that appear like hurtling shadows in deepest space yet by the finish it’s almost as if we’ve wondered upon a gloriously assembled Jaga Jazzist piece. This is so far removed from daytime playlists as you’re likely to hear but the lavish inventiveness deserves a wide audience. KD
