Shuffling along with its socks around its ankles the appeal is in its complete innocence. Perhaps it’s Mona Mørk’s slightly hushed singing or maybe it’s the rhythms that’ll have the slackers of the world thinking they can form a band. Ai Phoenix are Norwegian so as you’d expect they come from the small town of Bergen that is at the epicentre of the (admittedly slowing) Nordic invasion. And the best news is that Ai Phoenix’s new (5th) album ‘The Light Shines Almost All The Way’ is one of the most beguiling records of the year.
