The Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies)

Whatever way you look at the Arcade Fire are undoubtedly the band of the new century. The follow up to their blistering debut may have been slightly overcooked but that hardly takes away from the impression that whenever you hear a song from the Montreal natives you are experiencing much more than just music. And that’s before you even get to their shows, which have become the hottest ticket in town. They have been to Ireland half a dozen times in the last few years and I’ve yet to catch a glimpse. And despite the feverish excitement that the very mention of their name brings to so many they still remain largely detached from public consciousness. Mention the Arcade Fire to most and they’ll picture flaming bumper cars and screaming punters but us kids know differently. The secret may be out but Win Butler’s band remain unsoiled by mass interference. Not that you need reminding but here is the best song created in the last 5 years. KD

i saw them once, one of their many stops in toronto last yearit was good musicbut win must have been in a bad mood, he stopped one song a couple times and made the band re-start, being pretty prickly about itone slightly slower song people started clapping to (in this case i was glad i’m too cynical for most mass activities like that) and he told everyone to stop clapping quite bitterly because, apparently, it was too fast for the tempo of the song being played and was making performing it more difficulteverything about the concert was awkward and offthe only saving grace was the charming projectorfied performance of final fantasy, thank goodness

I guess we all have our off days, not a big fan of the clap myself.
