Sigur Ros – Festival

Sigur Rós’ music is a deeply personal experience. I know this because while I tend to shrivel up and retreat to a childhood state while their music plays my wife carries herself with the sort of nonchalant swagger of someone who is oblivious to their charms. We’ve discussed this state of affairs on many occasions, the recent being at Electric Picnic during ‘Festival’ wherein I crumpled into a heap as a brass band shuffled around the stage after appearing from nowhere to augment the sound to that of a heavenly embrace. How could she not comprehend what these Icelandic people were doing to her husband and why couldn’t she feel the same way? Now my time spent in the company of their new album is a solitary experience, despite that I return every few days. Sigur Rós don’t get better, they don’t get worse, they are just what they are ““ a spirit so joyous and all encompassing they are even capable of creating temporary schisms in the course of true love. Now that’s what I call music. KD

I was in exactly the same state when I saw them in Melbourne as the brass section appeared from nowhere to bob and weave across the stage. I understand completely!
