So School of Seven Bells make a return and to these ears at least they continue to pickpocket from the ye olde sound of Stereolab (with a dash of Cocteau thrown in for good measure). Circa ‘Mars Audiac Quintet’ if memory serves me correctly, or stated in laymen terms about the time that Franco-Anglo act were utterly swoonsome. School of Seven Bells are headed that way and are abetted by the fact that the vocals are provided by 2 sirens. Hard to listen while making that disconnect from desire (!) but even with the aesthetics removed ‘Babelonia’ makes for a virile couple of minutes. The aforementioned sophomore is out in mid July. KD
