Houses – Endless Spring

Lefse Records (with a pronunciation that is more difficult than what you might achieve by going it alone without the phonetics) kept popping up on my radar (owing to their signing of hugger favs Low Sea and A Classic Education) so an investigation was due. And the first little surprise came from an unnamed boy/girl from Chicago who call themselves Houses. Their debut record (due later) was churned out in an organic Bon Iver type of way, minus the electricity and modern day comforts that so propelled his beard. Could be the reason why I can’t stomach the latter but could end up moving in with the former (before I get the invite it’s more the music than the lifestyle). Anyway, the first glint of light from ‘All Night’ (the upcoming LP) is this delight, which may have struggled with the low wattage but still manages to emit luminous beams. It has that undeniable sense of the zeitgeist but blimey will it go down well with our grandchildren. KD
