Thanks to you know who for this tip which had me instantly thinking of indie pop stalwarts Camera Obscura. As it happens the School are from only just down the road in Cardiff (signed to Elephant Records who seem intent in persisting with real media files ““ hadn’t seen that format used so openly since 1998) and with debut LP ‘Loveless Unbeliever’ have positioned themselves in that uniquely pleasing Glaswegian groove. ‘Is He Really Coming Home?’ is a classic of its type with the focus clearly on lead singer Liz Hunt. In the background there are intermittent strings, some brass, lilting piano keys and a little glockenspiel giving the song undoubted panache. KD
