Percolator – Yellow Fire

We’re not ones for exclusives, mainly because we don’t get offered that many ““ ones that pass our strict taste-o-meter anyroad. But today we’re feeling as proud as punch to premier the new song from Waterford band Percolator. We’ve featured them before (3 years have passed in the interim) but their second coming goes beyond that of an audio treat and into the realm of physical joy. ‘Yellow Fire’ is one side of a 7-inch single the band are putting out with Dublin’s Mia Sparrow (who have a scratchy zip up your boots for the showband’s feel about them). ‘Yellow Fire’ emerges with the a-side laurals, however, in our book at least. This song has an early 90’s buzz that hinges on Ellie and Ian’s conflicting vocals. The music is altogether swoonsome too, slightly grainy but incandescent all the same. With fiery dynamics occurring at every turn ‘Yellow Fire’ somehow succeeds in sounding like a song we’ve been committing to mixtape for the best part of our compilation forming lives. They’ve gone beyond being ones to watch and become the altogether more appropriate ones to listen to again and again. KD
