My, where has this year disappeared to. I spent the first 6 months listening to more new music than ever and the second half listening to much less than normal. Topsy-turvey 12 months all told but as per the last half decade we will be presenting our Top 42 of the year next week sometime. Probably too far into December to consider anything new, except perhaps the odd new Christmas song. And tonight’s entry comes from an album that I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from but it has served up quite a few nice surprises. ‘This Is Christmas’ is a collaboration between Emmy The Great and our very own Tim Wheeler of Ash. The lead single ‘Home For The Holidays’ is probably the pick of the bunch but ‘Jesus The Reindeer’ and this song ‘Christmas Day (I Wish I Was Surfing)’ are equally adept at giving the Christmas music canon the ball of lead it needs. Sounds like Petrol-era Ash with Emmy’s delicious cooing adding an extra layer of sugary icing. KD
