Look up travelling troubadour and mostly likely the entry will feature an image of Alynda lee Segarra, a bard so infiltrated in the cause she could have been nothing else but born to do it. The trouble with these free spirits is that much of the time they are accomplished without ever thinking there is a need to have a parallel talent. Luckily for Segarra and her Hurray For The Riff Raff there are acres of the latter to match every bit of the former. When this New Orleans troupe hit the road they do so with gusto but it has led to good things in the shape of record labels on both sides of the water. ‘Bricks’ was released in 2009 and showcased a vocal/multi-instrument dance not unlike what Pittsburgh’s Boca Chica offer up. It’s better than good stuff, this is close to vital. KD
