It has been over 3 years since we last visited the works of Californian chanteuse Emily Jane White. On that occasion it was ‘Liza’ that blew our socks off and in the intervening period she has released her 3rd LP ‘Ode to Sentience’ which contained this understated delight. White has always struck us a singer not content with run of the mill themes. Instead her haunting images come backed up with enveloping moods that don’t interfere but create a distinct presence. ‘Black Silk’ is affecting stuff, a companion piece to what Laura Marling is achieving on that other great land mass.
