You can taste the kinetic energy and the sense that Alvvays are not going to get it all their own way. While ‘Zoey’ boasts a shoegaze heart it takes a detour to dreampopville, which suggest there is a lot more going on than just more of the lovely same. Post-shoegaze perhaps and a wandering spirit set to music. I was turning it up louder and louder as it progessed and that is down in the main to Samira Winter’s fluid sense of subtle ethereal vocal melodies. Elegant reworking of a treasured old sound Winter’s second LP ‘Ethereality’ has plenty more of the same. KH
