Now that is a racket to be proud of, a Manchester band that are not for holding back or steering clear of the cliff edge. A half-arsed approach never did anyone any good anyway. The chords on ‘When The Cloud Explodes’ scream like air raid sirens but it is the incendiary vocals that truly tell us all we need to know about a band that have more passion than a full Top 30 chart worth of blandishments. The Empty Page are named after a Sonic Youth track and on this evidence they appear to be quite the kool thing. KH
