If music from northern Finland wasn’t enough at this time of year Hellhounds had to go and give us a track that is as warm as inviting as any winter track could possibly hope to be, with Joy Zipper effects to boot. The success is down to arrangements that are grandiose but never overwhelming, but mostly because the boy/girl (Heikki Tuomi & Maria Försti) vocals have so much symmetry and chemistry as to make all the worries that fill our/your/their head evaporate in double quick time. ‘Wild Horses’ is just beautiful, insofar as we’re invited into the Oulu acts’ lair and from there our soul and hopeful side is stirred with lines such as ‘I do want to dance, but my bones are all broken, but your love is still pure, let your love be the cure’. I needed this song right now and I know I won’t be alone. Hellhounds debut EP ‘Velour’ is out now. KH
