‘Your Return’ probably couldn’t have had a more mournful opening and I was keen to get to the nub of where all the melancholy was coming from. Obvious Norway’s Mathias Gundhus is a thinker and he has woven all that inner realisation with a melodic swoop and soar that means we can hum or sing along depending on how the mood takes us. The spirituality of the piece is what got me, not a mere few minutes audio but a state of mind we’re aiming to repeat over and over. I’ll have it on all winter but such is the warmth it could easily transition to summer. Friendship found in a piece of music, a rare thing. Mathias’ debut EP ‘Now Would Be A Good Time’ is out now. KH
