Melody Fields – Hallelujah

You know it was giving me all sorts of baggy flashbacks, including Primal Scream circa ‘Screamadelica’ and plenty of ‘Thrills, Pills and Bellyaches’ era the Happy Mondays too (sneaky MacColl vocal nod to their track of the same name in there too!). A bit of euphoria of the nineties kind never did anyone any harm and in the case of ‘Halleujah’ it could be positively restorative. The hint of vocal, the dancing piano and all manner of brass interventions could only mean one thing and that was that we were in proper Madchester heaven. The much missed Andrew Weatherall and Kirsty MacColl if they had still been with us would have loved this. Sweden’s Melody Fields know their preferred era very well so no surprise that one of their two albums to be released later this year is titled ‘1991’ KH
