Self Love Club – Afraid

Such quiet psychedelic swirls, of the kind that most reminded of Slowdive (and ‘Disintegraton’ era Cure) and that was more in the swell of playing though the vocals do have a hint of ethereal Rachel Goswell about them too. In fact once we get into the heart of ‘Afraid’ you can tell that Self Love Club have really taken the shoegaze sound to heart, studied from the best and in the process offered us up a swell that is all pervasive. I got lost and fortunately I love that feeling so ‘Afraid’ has achieved that rare feat of building on something that has been with us unchanged for decades. KH
