Emilia Vaughn – Skeleton

Oh the loneliness is clear and it reminded me of ‘Man of Aran’ by British Sea Power of all things. That is because San Diego’s Emilia Vaughn has the capacity to strip things back and though ‘Skeleton’ has an alt pop quality there is innovation here that goes beyond mere commercial fare. The descending harmonies for one have a grandeur and a romanticism to take us clear of day to dayism and into a world where the backdrop is decidedly orchestral and post-rock in one. It drifts and we drift along willingly because this is a lesson in hope here against all the odds. KH
