It was giving me all sorts of Pale Saints vibes but then you’d probably expect a thorough nineties workout from a band called Snowcuffs and they really go at it hammer and tongs. So we get a elaborate chords and a swathe of ethereal vocals to wash it all down. ‘Uptown’ is top to tail ebb and flow, a giddy rapture of dream and jangle pop textures. You’d be reminded of Hatchie and Alvvays but Chicago’s Snowcuffs have done enough here to stand apart on their own two feet. Head in the clouds and we hope it will forever remains thus. KH
