The Winks – Guitar Swing

Todd McDonald and Tyr Jami are the vivacious duo who form the fulcrum of Montreal band the Winks. A case of fallout from the Arcade Fire’s dash you might say but the Winks had been releasing CDR’s well before ‘Funeral’ gave the world a Wake. Their current album is called ‘Birthday Party’ and is resplendent with images of the lovely pair in lavish festive gear. Contained within is one ‘Guitar Swing’ which won the Winks a coveted spot on Spin’s band of the day feature. The song is as non-linear as they come but features so many winning turns you’ll still be finding new ones months later. McDonald provides the electrified mandolin with Jami’s cello parts adding equally compelling aural dalliances. Right at the end things descent into luscious whimsy with several pockets of seesaw wah wah’s. Nudge your friends, this a band to watch. KD
