Football and music eh, go together like cyrsanthemums and training jersey’s? Well, new band Glasvegas seem to think so and their music reflects the glorious union in technicolor style. The only thing holding them back is Alan McGee’s patronage (remember the Paddington’s and the MBV quote?), if you can see beyond that stumbling block then the band stand a good fighting chance. ‘Flowers & Football Tops’ keeps its heroes close to the surface, keen eared hoops fans will note the Henrik homage, yet what marks the tune out from the crowd is the sheer spectacle in the sound. Glasvegas are approaching us by stealth, they remain unsigned and their releases have been confined to limited edition 7-inch singles yet the majesty in tunes like ‘It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry’ means that they will soon hold a special place in the hearts of those who frequent paradise.
