Despite what you might think Andrew Bird has actually released 8 albums, the 3 you might have missed came at the end of the last century when he was in a group called Bowl of Fire. Of course his stock rose dramatically when he flew alone but for a man of his undoubted talents it was surely only a matter of time before success came alone. Not only is Bird skilled multi-instrumentalist but he is also a prized whistler and that art is present throughout much of his material. The clincher of course is that Bird can write the prettiest of songs and lace them with thoughtful lyrics. Songs like ‘Oh No’ are his stock and trade, flush with melody, invention and infused with the warmth of an embrace. You could probably say we are fans. KD
