#190 New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle (12-inch)

This is by a long way my favourite New Order track. Not the shorter version that appeared on ‘Brotherhood’ mind, but the all-conquering remix that appeared on the ‘Substance’ compilation. For nearly 7 minutes you are treated to a galaxy of percussive delights, snappy beats and scuttling synth’s that spray about like a polished silver ball in a pinball machine. Bernard Sumner does his best to control his slightly skewed vocals but inevitably they melt into the vast bank of keyboards to appropriate artificiality. Thank the heavens, then, that he didn’t swallow another microphone head during rehearsals. This is timeless stuff, sounding as vibrant and fresh as it did when it first came out 19 years ago. Grab your partner by the hand”¦.

New Order – Bizarre Love Triangle

As a bonus here is Australian band Frente! and their acoustic version of ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’. All you get is Angie Hart’s crystal voice and some twinkling chords. The result is bewitching. KD
