Miss the urgency and melody rush of the first couple of Strokes albums? Well, a perfect tonic could be on its way from one of the least expected sources. British Sea Power come from the south of England and on their last album ‘Open Season’ seemed more taken with the Great War and shrubbery than any wilful desire to create a blistering classic. But, there are clues to this delightfully surprising turn of events given the links to madcap sonic adventurists Brakes (x3 if you live stateside). Anyway, as a taster for the 3rd BSP album the band are about to unleash the ‘Krankenhaus’ EP. The lead track is called ‘Atom’ and it should go down a bomb with lovers of spiky student anthems. For once this most cerebral of bands drops its bookcase of hardbacks and instead bursts forward with a dedicated passion. KD
