We’ve been here before of course but I don’t think I could close the door on the Gorgeous Colours stunning debut without giving ‘Miss You’ an airing. I’m sure it’ll be a single someday such is its studied melodies, anthem like refrains and jangling chords. In what is turning out to be a pretty good year for Irish albums (!, well September turned out be some month) the Gorgeous Colours ranks amongst the best. It works very well as an long player but there is much to keep the mixtape enthusiast happy too. ‘Miss You’ is an uncomplicated joy, with undoubted crossover appeal even if the sudden equilibrium wavering momentum towards the end threatens to return it to the darkened rooms of bespeckled indiedom from whence it came.
